The Mycelium Cycle
The Mycelium Cycle
A four-book series about what survives being joined to something else, and what it costs.

Book 1 of The Mycelium Cycle
Project Mycelium
- Biopunk
- Post-Apocalyptic SF
- Gothic
- Body Horror
- Cosmic Horror
- Found Family
Seventeen years after the Bloom quietly dismantled the modern world, Dr. Mara Vale has built her life on the belief that biology, not machines, is how humanity survives. When a dying stranger arrives carrying a message grown inside his own body — in her mother's handwriting, dead since the Bloom — Mara must return to Bellweather, the Appalachian town she escaped as a child, and confront what's buried beneath it.
Seventeen years ago, the world wasn't destroyed. It was dismantled.
The Bloom consumed power grids, poisoned industry, and turned cities into living ecosystems. Humanity survived only by learning to build with biology instead of machines.
Dr. Mara Vale has spent her life doing exactly that.
Then a dying stranger reaches her settlement carrying a message grown inside his body.
COME HOME.
The handwriting belongs to Mara's mother—dead since the Bloom.
To uncover the truth, Mara must return to Bellweather, the Appalachian town she escaped as a child. A town the new world somehow never managed to destroy.
Beneath Bellweather waits the remains of Project Mycelium.
And something far older. Something that remembers humanity. Something that once decided civilization could not be allowed to continue.
Now it is preparing to make another choice.
Chapter One
The man had been dead for at least six hours before he arrived, and no one had told him yet.
She didn't say it like that to the gate runner who'd hauled him in on a hand cart, breathless, asking if the doctor could fix him. She said, "Get me warm saline and the wide-bore line," because that was useful, and the truth wasn't, not yet.
